Feeding recommendations:
First, choose a great food. Top foods are meat. Just on the list of ingredients and Vitamin E preserved (TOCOPHERILS). Recommended brands are Diamond, Pro Plan, NutroMAX, IAMS or EUKANUBA. Until about 5 months to one year, a lower protein "large breed" puppy food should be fed, as too much protein can cause growing pains (PAN OSTIOSIS) as a result of bone growth exceeding the body’s ability to PUT CALCIUM ON THE BONE. If this should happen a calcium supplement would quickly cure the problem in a day or tow. However allowing the growth rate to slow down as nature intended is accomplished by large breed puppy foods. From 8 to 14 weeks feed 3 times per day (i.e. – morning, dinner time and late – an hour or two before bed. From 14 to 20 weeks feed 2 items per day. From 20 weeks on feed one large meal with a little canned food.
Housebreaking: My pups house break very quickly (1 –5 days) with this method. 1. When puppies wake up they have to urinate so take them straight out to potty and always to the same spot. The smell of previous urination will stimulate the puppy to go there in the future. 2. After eating they have to poop so repeat the same process as when a puppy first wakes up. Always praise the pup after going outside. Soon he/she will let your know when they need to go out. Every pup tells you in their own way so be attentive! |
